FAQ

  • Can anyone take classes?
    Yes. That's the beauty of Center of Defensive Arts. Our curriculum is versatile enough so that individuals of all ages and genders can learn self defense skills. One does not need to be a great athlete to learn how to protect themselves.
  • How long are classes?
    A typical adult class at our school lasts one and a half hours. Our youth classes (ages 12 and under) are one hour. However, there are a number of ways to structure classes and seminars to suit one's needs.
  • Does your school only offer self defense?
    Yes, our expertise lies in self defense. We are empty hand, self defense specialists.
  • Do you only teach classes in Washington, Missouri?"
    No. While our home studio is located in Washington, we also offer classes on Tuesday evenings in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
  • Does your self defense system teach defense against guns, knives, bats and clubs?"
    Yes, we do. Defense against modern day weapons is a large part of our curriculum.
  • Can a person with disablities learn self defense?
    Yes, we have taught students with a number of limitations, such as Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, bad shoulders, knees and backs, just to name a few.
  • Do you offer options for individuals that do shift work?
    Yes, we schedule all shift workers, such as doctors, pilots, and law enforcment, on a monthly basis, based on their shedule.
  • How long does it take to become a black belt?
    Belt rank should not be a student's priority. Gaining knowledge and perfecting techniques come first, and the belts will follow. Everyone learns at a different rate, but typcially it takes 5-6 years to become a black belt.
